1091. இருநோக்கு இவளுண்கண் உள்ளது ஒருநோக்கு
நோய்நோக்கொன் றந்நோய் மருந்து.
Her painted eyes, two glances dart 1091
One hurts; the other heals my heart.

1092. கண்களவு கொள்ளும் சிறுநோக்கம் காமத்தில்
செம்பாகம் அன்று பொ¢து.
Her furtive lightning glance is more 1092
Than enjoyment of sexual lore.

1093. நோக்கினாள் நோக்கி இறைஞ்சினாள் அ·தவள்
யாப்பினுள் அட்டிய நீர்.
She looked; looking bowed her head 1093
And love-plant was with water fed.

1094. யான்நோக்கும் காலை நிலன்நோக்கும் நோக்காக்கால்
தான்நோக்கி மெல்ல நகும்.
I look; she droops to earth awhile 1094
I turn; she looks with gentle smile.

1095. குறிக்கொண்டு நோக்காமை அல்லால் ஒருகண்
சிறக்கணித்தாள் போல நகும்.
No direct gaze; a side-long glance 1095
She darts at me and smiles askance.

1096. உறாஅ தவர்போல் சொலினும் செறாஅர்சொல்
ஒல்லை உணரப் படும்.
Their words at first seem an offence 1096
But quick we feel them friendly ones.

1097. செறாஅச் சிறுசொல்லும் செற்றார்போல் நோக்கும்
உறாஅர்போன்று உற்றார் குறிப்பு.
Harsh little words; offended looks, 1097
Are feigned consenting love-lorn tricks.

1098. அசையியற்கு உண்டாண்டோர் எஎர்யான் நோக்கப்
பசையினள் பைய நகும்.
What a grace the slim maid has! 1098
As I look she slightly smiles.

1099. ஏதிலார் போலப் பொதுநோக்கு நோக்குதல்
காதலார் கண்ணே உள.
Between lovers we do discern 1099
A stranger's look of unconcern.

1100. கண்ணோடு கண்இணை நோக்கொக்கின் வாய்ச் சொற்கள்
என்ன பயனும் இல.
The words of mouth are of no use 1100
When eye to eye agrees the gaze.

701 கூறாமை நோக்கிக் குறிப்பறிவான் எஞ்ஞான்றும்
மாறாநீர் வையக்கு அணி.
Who reads the mind by look, untold 701
Adorns the changeless sea-girt world.

702. ஐயப் படாஅது அகத்தது உணர்வானைத்
தெய்வத்தோ டொப்பக் கொளல்.
Take him as God who reads the thought 702
Of another man with without a doubt.

703. குறிப்பிற் குறிப்புணர் வாரை உறுப்பினுள்
யாது கொடுத்தும் கொளல்.
By sign who scans the sign admit 703
At any cost in cabinet.

704. குறித்தது கூறாமைக் கொள்வாரோ டேனை
உறுப்போ ரனையரால் வேறு.
Untold, he who divines the thought 704
Though same in form is quite apart.

705. குறிப்பின் குறிப்புணரா வாயின் உறுப்பினுள்
என்ன பயத்தவோ கண்.
Among senses what for is eye 705
If thought by thought one can't descry?

706. அடுத்தது காட்டும் பளிங்குபோல் நெஞ்சம்
கடுத்தது காட்டும் முகம்.
What throbs in mind the face reflects 706
Just as mirror nearby objects.

707. முகத்தின் முதுக்குறைந்தது உண்டோ உவப்பினும்
காயினும் தான்முந் துறும்.
Than face what is subtler to tell 707
First if the mind feels well or ill.

708. முகம்நோக்கி நிற்க அமையும் அகம்நோக்கி
உற்ற துணர்வார்ப் பெறின்.
Just standing in front would suffice 708
For those who read the mind on face.

709. பகைமையும் கேண்மையும் கண்ணுரைக்கும் கண்ணின்
வகைமை உணர்வார்ப் பெறின்.
Friend or foe the eyes will show 709
To those who changing outlooks know.

710. நுண்ணியம் என்பார் அளக்குங்கோல் காணுங்கால்
கண்ணல்லது இல்லை பிற.
The scale of keen discerning minds 710
Is eye and eye that secrets finds.
